Grills for Grads
Gift Ideas: Grills for Grads
The end of the school year is fast approaching and many families are getting ready to send new grads off to college. Whether you’re looking for graduation presents or just making sure they’ll have everything they need in their new place, an indoor contact grill may just be the perfect solution.

Get your grad a grill in a fun color to match their decor, like our Super Champ Vari-Temp
Dorm food is typically less than appealing to eat day in and day out, plus alternatives like constant drive thru trips leave something to be desired in the way of a healthy diet. With a George Foreman electric grill, you can offer them a quick, easy way to eat better while they’re away from home.
This post aims at capturing all of the things you need to consider when buying a grill for grad, as well as some recommendations of which grills fit a grad’s needs best.
Size
This is undoubtedly the most important issue to consider when buying a grill for a grad. Whether they’re headed to the dorms or moving into their own place, chances are their kitchen space will be tiny (if they have one at all). Grads don’t need a family-size grill that will feed 4 or 5 people. At best, they might want to be cooking for a friend or roommate, so a 2-3 serving size grill should be more than enough. Any of the grills in our Small Grills product section fit the bill, but some of the Medium Grills may also work depending on their space.
Cleaning
The life of a new grad is undoubtedly hectic as they get into the swing of life away from home, so an important point to consider is how they’ll be cleaning the grill. If they have access to a dishwasher, then a removable plate grill is ideal because they just have to throw the plates and accessories in the dishwasher when they’re done. In addition some of our medium sized removable plate grills like the G-Broil EZ Clean have vertical storage for even more space saving.
Most dorms don’t have access to this, though, so you may want to consider a grill that comes with custom sponges, like some of the models in our Champ series.
Color & Style
The next most important issue in buying a grill for your grad is actually what it looks like. Do they want something super sleek and modern to match the rest of their electronics? How important is color and what will go with their décor?
Here is where you can have some fun in selecting a grill that will really catch the eye and make it a special part of their room. You can find a standard silver, black, white (or Foreman red) grill without much effort, but for an even more unique gift, you might consider getting a grill that’s done in a more distinctive color like blue, green, purple and even pink. You can find George Foreman colored grills through a number of online retailers.
Programming
Most grads won’t need a lot of programming – if any – so you don’t really have to look for a lot of dial or digital controls unless they would really suit your grad’s cooking style and habits. However, if your grad will want something that can heat sandwiches and wraps, you may want to consider some kind of variable temperature so they can turn the heat down to a better cooking level for these types of foods. Our Super Champ™ Vari-Temp Grill features an easy dial temperature control and is also available in a variety of colors, making it a perfect option for grads.
