About the Food
Q. Can I use seasonings, rubs and marinades on my food prior to placing on the grill?
A. Yes. All of these pre-seasoning treatments can be used with food prior to placing on the grill to cook. If using a marinade, make sure to pat the outside of the food dry with a paper towel. Avoid over-seasoning with spices or rubs, as this can cause a burnt crust on the outside of your food.
Q. Why are the grill marks on my food lighter than I expected?
A. Your grill may not have been fully preheated prior to the food being placed on the cooking plate. In order to achieve the desired texture and grill marks or your food, the grill must be fully preheated prior to any food being placed on the cooking plate.
Q. Why does my food look steamed?
A. Your grill may not have been fully preheated prior to the food being placed on the cooking plate. In order to achieve the desired texture and grill marks or your food, the grill must be fully preheated prior to any food being placed on the cooking plate.
Q. Why is my food cooked unevenly?
A. One of two factors may cause food to cook unevenly. If your grill is overloaded, the edges of individual pieces may be pressed against each other, which can cause the edges to cook unevenly. The second factor may be that the food is not trimmed to the same thickness. To ensure even cooking make sure each piece is cut to the same thickness and that pieces do not overlap on the cooking surface.
Q. Why is my food dry and/or burnt?
A. The food is overcooked. Often, if you are accustomed to outdoor or pan grilling, you may overestimate your cooking time. Since food is cooking from both sides, it will cook faster than traditional methods. Always check the cooking chart in your Use & Care manual prior to cooking; if it is your first time cooking that item, we also recommend checking the cooking progress at the minimum time listed in the chart to ensure proper results.
Q. How do I know if my food is cooked to the desired doneness?
A. We recommend using a meat thermometer to check that your food is cooked to the desired doneness. Simply insert the thermometer both in the center and near an edge of each of the pieces being cooked to ensure they have reached the desired internal temperature. You can refer to the internal temperatures table located after the cooking chart in your Use & Care manual; this provides various internal temperatures of some common foods at several degrees of doneness.
