Grill Plate Troubleshooting
Q. I’m having trouble attaching my grill plates. What can I do to attach them correctly?
A. Make sure that the plate release handles and the attachment points on the grill body are clear of anything that may be blocking them from attaching correctly. Some removable plate grills have plates that only attach to the top or bottom when facing a certain way. Make sure your attaching the correct plate and that you have it oriented correctly to be attached properly. You may also wish to try attaching one side of the grill plate first, then the other, as this can make attaching the plates easier if you are having trouble.
Q. Are my removable grill plates dishwasher-safe?
A. Yes. Both the removable plates and the accessories are dishwasher-safe to make cleaning easier. You can also wash by hand with hot, soapy water. Remember to dry thoroughly to avoid water spots left on the plate surface from cleaning.
Q. How much food can I put on my grill plates?
A. The size of your grill will determine how many servings you can cook at once. If you know the size of your grill, you can generally fit one average-sized serving of food for every 20 square inches of space. If you don’t know the size, simply make sure that no food is pressing against or overlapping with any other piece on the grill. Also make sure that no food extends beyond the raised border around the edge of the plate.
Q. Can I put food on the edges of the grill plates and still have it cook correctly?
A. The embedded heating elements on your grill are designed to cook to the edges of the grill plates. However, if food extends over the raised edge of the plate, it will be beyond the edge of the heating element as well. Always make sure food is placed within the border of the raised edge that goes around the sides and back of the cooking surface.
Q. Why is the finish on my grill plates cut, scratched and/or peeling?
A. Metal utensils may have been used. When placing or removing food, always use non-metal utensils, such as silicone, heatproof plastic or wood to avoid marking the nonstick surface of the plates. Never use metal spatulas, skewers, tongs, forks or knives.
Q. Why do I see food buildup on the surface of my grill plates?
A. The grill plates may not have been properly cleaned after the last use. Use a nylon scrubbing pad and hot, soapy water to clean the plates. Never use steel wool scrubbing pads or abrasive cleansers to clean your grill.
Q. Why are there white spots on my grill plates?
A. Water may have dried on the surface of the grill plates after the last cleaning, which causes white spots. Simply rinse the plates and dry thoroughly immediately after.
Q. Can I buy additional plates for my removable plate grill?
A. Some of our grills feature interchangeable cooking plates, such as the G5, 360 Grill™, Kitchen Bistro™ / Evolve™ Grill series. To order additional plates, you can check the Products section of our website to see what plates are available for your particular grill.
